Interlude

With a rush of adrenaline Quickening my pace I briskly walked Through the sun dappled ways The city lay Like an unknown maze Roads alluring; unexplored Mystic; teeming streets I stood at the crossroads Alone; eyes a-twinkle The day stretching ahead Promising adventures and thrill Ignoring the stares Of the loitering few A newcomer in the city Sticking out in the milieu I walked with a swagger Recklessly buoyant Footloose and fancy free In the unknown land Unknown streets Unseen faces Even the little shrubbery Seeming exotic;diverse I peeped into shops Enjoying the sight Of wares enchanting Smells cloyingly sweet The mid-day sun Beating on my face I soon got tired And turned to go home Ahead loomed the metro I darted up the steps At the ticket counter Checked for the place Was it Jubilee Hills? I thought it was so Took the ticket Proceeded to the gate Reaching the station I looked around Hoping I was right Yet not really vexed I ca

The child looked around  A little girl of four Cute pigtails   Chubby face troubled She was in school It was mothers day All her friend's  mothers arrived Hers was not there She looked among the audience  Trying  to locate That much loved face But it was not there The performance  started  She sang with gusto It was Mother's  day She was singing for her mother  But where was her mother  Why didn't she  come Was she all right A tiny little  pang The child looked worried At the end of the song The crease betwixt her brows Deepening  further  The program over They went back to class The mothers went home Classes resumed  Some children were crying  They wanted to go home Seeing  their mothers leave They  could not stop their tears  But she sat quietly  Looking  lost She wanted to see her mother  She was scared now The bell rang finally  It was time to go home The children lined up The teacher led them out Seeing  her troubled f
